Think Like A Butterfly

I am who God says I am and so are you! He says we are a new creation in Christ. That means I am no longer the old Julie, the Julie full of negative thoughts. The old me is in the past and the only way to keep it alive is to think and live in the past. We do that when we replay or ruminate about past memories. In Romans 8, Paul makes that classic statement we've all quoted about how nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. In verse 38 Paul says, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Have you ever noticed that the past is conspicuously absent from that exhaustive list? The present and the future are listed. Why is the past not listed? It seems the implication is that the past can separate us from Christ. Not in a losing of your salvation way. What we focus on we magnify. If I continually live in the past I am planting 'thought-seeds' in the garden of my mind and soon I will bear that fruit. If we meditate on the negative things of our past we cut ourselves off from our true identity in Christ. I am who God says I am!
God says I was born from above when I surrendered my life to Christ. He says I am a brand new creation! I talked about this in my last blog post about the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly.
The born again butterfly does not dwell on its past life as a worm! Imagine a butterfly sitting on a beautiful flower contemplating on its past life as a worm and how awful that was. It had to crawl and climb everywhere, eat leaves all day and worry about being eaten by birds. Ridiculous! I doubt that butterfly would even be able to fly very much because it's still thinking and believing it is a caterpillar.
We can be the same way. If we don't believe we have truly been changed into a new creation in Christ we will continue to live a worm-like life and never learn to soar above the ground. Did you know that Monarch butterflies can fly from northern America all the way down to Mexico? Butterflies are the only insect that actually migrate! Flying from the north to the south in one generation is a bit miraculous. To fly back from the south to the north the Monarch butterfly must go through 7 generations! So the ones flying from the north to the south are a Super Generational Monarch butterfly!
God has given us everything we need for life and godliness in Christ! You are a Super Generational Monarch butterfly. Here is another fun fact. The Monarch butterfly is equipped with an inner compass that guides its travel path according to the position of the sun! You have a compass too. It's the Holy Spirit. You are no longer limited in your life. Because Jesus lives in you and you in Him, you have everything Jesus has! Think about that and you will bear much fruit.

Yes, holy ground! No, not new but it's good to remember and meditate on our identity in Christ from time to time. Thank you Catherine!
This is holy ground , Julie. Nothing particularly new but everything relevant
Thank you!
